Immunization

Immunization

Immunization (as defined by the World Health Organization) is the process by which a person becomes immune, or immune to an infectious disease, and which is usually carried out by the administration of a vaccine.

Infections that can be prevented by vaccination include pertussis, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenza, pneumococcal infection, meningococcal infection, rotavirus infection, chickenpox, hepatitis A, papillomavirus infection and others.

The use of vaccines reduces the likelihood of the spread of relevant infections by hundreds of times. To date, there are no alternatives to vaccination to prevent the disease of the relevant infections. Herd immunity

Vaccination coverage of 95% of the country's population makes it possible to ensure full protection of the population from outbreaks and epidemics of vaccine-preventable infectious diseases - this is called herd immunity. In the case of a decrease in population immunity, the incidence of infections against which vaccination is carried out increases.

WHO warns that if the level of vaccination coverage of the country's population falls by several %, it creates favorable conditions for the spread of infectious diseases, the lower the collective immunity, the higher the chance of outbreaks and epidemics.

Vaccination in Ukraine is carried out following the Vaccination Calendar, which is developed taking into account international experience, and today, subject to its observance, it is the most optimal for ensuring full immunity.
