The third dose of the vaccine. Who can get an additional vaccination against COVID-19?

The third vaccination against coronavirus is officially allowed in Ukraine. The relevant order was signed by the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

An additional dose is a dose that is administered to achieve better protection in individuals who, due to their health condition, have lower vaccine efficacy compared to the efficacy of the vaccine in the general population.

Who needs the third dose?

According to the order of the Ministry of Health, the following categories of people will receive the third vaccination against covid, regardless of which vaccine they were vaccinated with earlier

- persons with primary or acquired immunodeficiencies, such as patients with acute and chronic leukemia, clinically aggressive lymphoma, hematological malignancies, persons with immunosuppression caused by HIV infection, etc;

- persons who were on immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory therapy during vaccination, in particular, those who received chemotherapy or immunosuppressive therapy after organ transplantation;

- persons with chronic immune-mediated inflammatory diseases who received immunosuppressive therapy before vaccination, such as corticosteroids and certain immunomodulatory drugs;

- persons who received high doses of steroids for any reason one month before vaccination.

After the additional dose, these people will be more protected against coronavirus disease. For the third dose, it is better to use mRNA vaccines, namely Pfizer and Moderna.

How to get an additional dose of the vaccine from the State Institution "TMA of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Rivne region"

To do this, a person who falls under the above criteria should contact their district therapist and get a referral for an additional dose of vaccination. The doctor issues a referral in any form for the administration of an additional dose for medical reasons. After that, you will receive the third dose in the vaccination room.

In the clinic of the State Institution "TMA of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Rivne region," you can vaccinate children from the age of 12.

Do you want to protect your teenager from the severe course of COVID-19? You can already vaccinate children from the age of 12!

Children from the age of 12 can be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Comirnaty vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech, provided they have all mandatory routine vaccinations.

To vaccinate a child over 12 years of age against coronavirus disease, it is necessary to provide a certificate of form 063/o (preventive vaccination card) confirming the availability of all routine vaccinations according to the National Vaccination Calendar.

This certificate can be obtained at the clinic of the State Institution "TMO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Rivne region" from a pediatrician or family doctor. Vaccination of children and adolescents takes place

  • for children aged 12 - 13 years - with parental consent, following Article 43 of the Fundamentals of Health Care Legislation
  • for children aged 14 - 17 years - based on the child's own decision on vaccination.

        It should be reminded that in Ukraine, children aged 12 and over, who have a high risk of severe course and development of complications after COVID-19 due to concomitant diseases, began to be vaccinated against coronavirus disease with the Comirnaty vaccine back in July. We also note that vaccination of children under 16 is subject to the mandatory consent of parents or guardians.
