PREVENTION OF "PROFESSIONAL BURNOUT" SYNDROME

One of the central problems of psychological science in recent years has become the prevalence of mental adaptation disorders, which is associated with increased demands on human psychological resources, primarily with socio-economic and political instability in the country. In turn, this has led to massive specific socio-psychological phenomena, including professional burnout. That is why it is necessary to popularize knowledge about the syndrome of "professional burnout" in medical workers and its early manifestations to further correct it to preserve the health of medical personnel and prolong their professional longevity.

Emotional burnout negatively affects not only the employees themselves, their activities, and their well-being but also those who are close to them. To prevent a health worker from becoming a hostage to the patient's illness, it is necessary to realize that a significant role in the fight against the disease and responsibility for life and health belongs primarily to the patient himself. The best prevention of professional burnout is an adequate attitude to work and giving it its proper place in life.

The main factors of professional burnout are

  • optimally managed workload, which should correspond to the physical abilities of the person and contribute to the professional development of the employee;
  • the high-quality social environment in which there is cooperation, mutual assistance, and positive emotions;
  • optimal control with real support for the autonomy of specialists;
  • optimal control with real support for the autonomy of specialists;
  • fair financial rewards, social recognition;
  • common values of the individual and the team, the institution; fairness to all employees regardless of position, which promotes respect of each employee to himself and the team, and the institution as a whole.

Also, the main groups of preventive and therapeutic measures that can be carried out in the team to preserve the psycho-emotional health of health workers should include hygiene of industrial relations and psychohygiene.

The hygiene of industrial relations should provide for increasing the professional motivation of employees; establishing a balance between the efforts expended and the reward received; rational organization of working time; carrying out activities together with the management to build mutual trust and a positive working atmosphere in the team; creating conditions for psycho-emotional discharge, relieving work stress and maintaining the mental and physical health of medical staff.

The social (public) direction of psychohygiene aims to provide social conditions for the harmonious mental development of the individual, absorbing all the factors that a person can influence. First of all, the chief nurse should draw the attention of medical workers to a positive attitude towards themselves; optimal development, growth, and self-realization; personal autonomy; realistic perception of the environment; ability to adequately influence it if necessary, etc.

Adopting the effective world experience, both individual and group forms of training work prove to be very good: special classes with the use of various exercises aimed at muscle relaxation, self-hypnosis, as well as professional, and personal growth and competence development.

Harmonization of the psychophysical state prevents the development of professional burnout syndrome. Conditionally, all methods of harmonization of the psychophysical state of a person can be divided by types of influence on physiological (influence on the body - maintaining the quality of sleep, rational nutrition, sufficient physical activity, massage, color therapy, aromatherapy, breathing exercises, water procedures) emotional and volitional (influence on the emotional state - laughter, music therapy, communication with family, friends; doing favorite things, hobbies; spending free time in nature, with animals, etc.

An important condition for the prevention of professional burnout of health workers is to prevent the emergence (and in case of their presence - elimination) of external and internal factors of this syndrome. After all, employees can burn out without working in stressful conditions.
